Howard looking to add Gold Gloves to extensive Golden Sombrero collection

howard_ryan2Ryan Howard walked and scored a run as he narrowly missed another Golden Sombrero by striking out only three times in the 11-4 trouncing of the Brewers.

Howard worked hard this offseason to improve defensively and it looks to have paid off in the early going with several Gold Glove caliber plays turned in by the first baseman through the Phillies first 12 games.

His figuritive collection of 12 Golden Sombreros — including one he earned last Friday against San Diego — was the main motivation behind the new found focus on defense and said he will try to add one Gold Glove for every Sombrero on his mantle.

“I’m pretty sure I can avoid the Sombreros from now on and just stick to hat tricks,” said Howard. “Playing into my fifties trying to get those 12 Gold Gloves might give me some trouble though.”

Howard is looking good this year and his “D” is definately improved. Pretty soon he may be even better than Buckner………… Oh wait!! that’s not a good comparision is it?
He’s not getting paid to be a defensive stud, as long as he maintains that sweet swing, we’ll all be happy.
