The Phillies will give away a free copy of the 10th Anniversary edition of Jimmy Poppins — starring the Phils’ own Jimmy Rollins — to the first 5,000 guests on June 12 against the Boston Red Sox.
The film, based on Rollins’ real life, follows the character Jimmy Poppins as he spends his childhood emulating legendary leadoff hitter Rickey Henderson. Poppins then works his way to the majors where he routinely pops balls up and never gets on base, falling unimaginably short of becoming the legendary leadoff hitter he once idolized.
“It’s one of those movies the whole family can enjoy,” said Rollins. “Unless your family really likes the Phillies, then it might get a little painful watching me pop up over and over and over and over and over and over . . . and over again . . .”
