Hello again fans! Greg Dobbs here doing some pinch-blogging (heh, see what I did there?) about the Phillies’ chances to overcome the loss of Greg Dobbs and continue their run atop the NL East.

The Phillies current run of four-straight division titles began back on January 15, 2007, when the Phillies re-affirmed their commitment to winning by claiming Greg Dobbs off waivers from the Seattle Mariners.

The rest — as they say — is history.

Greg Dobbs led Philadelphia to its first playoff appearance in 13 years, its first division title in 24 years and its first World Series title in 28 years. Greg Dobbs was enjoying all the success he brought to the team and thought the ride would never end.

But Greg Dobbs was wrong.

On October 28, 2010, the Phillies decided that they didn’t need Greg Dobbs anymore and let Greg Dobbs file for free agency. As you may remember, this move sparked major outrage by the Phillies fanbase, which led to the team signing Cliff Lee two months later in a desperate attempt to replace Greg Dobbs.

Will the signing of Cliff Lee and the formation of the supposed greatest rotation in the history of the game be enough to overcome the loss of Greg Dobbs? Greg Dobbs thinks anything is possible, but Greg Dobbs wouldn’t put his money on it.

Greg Dobbs isn’t very impressed by the offseason moves by the Nationals and Braves and doesn’t think the Mets will still be a team by June, but the Marlins have the one thing that the Phillies don’t have, and that’s Greg Dobbs.

A fifth division title isn’t out of the question for the Phillies and Greg Dobbs has definitely seen stranger things happen before, but Greg Dobbs would definitely recommend trading for Greg Dobbs at some point during the season if the team is still committed to winning games.

Hopefully the Phillies will at least stay competitive this season, but without Greg Dobbs, Greg Dobbs just doesn’t see that happening.

Ever since Allen Iverson left in a trade to Denver in 2006, the Sixers have widely been regarded as ‘Andre Iguodala’s team,’ and with that team’s performance over the past few years, it’s no wonder that the Illinois native has taken heat as an underachiever.

But, is that fair?

It seems too easy to say that, after seven years, Iguodala just isn’t the superstar player we originally thought he could be and that the Sixers would be better off without him.

The issue no one seems to want to address is that Iguodala could very well be one of the most talented players in NBA history, whose elite-level basketball skills are being misused and wasted in Philadelphia.

At 6’6″, Iguodala is the same height as one Michael Jeffrey Jordan, who was, by my estimate, the greatest basketball player ever. Fortunately for Jordan, he didn’t have to spend one minute of his career playing for the Sixers, so his career path wasn’t choked and beaten before it even began as was the case with Iguodala.

According to many projections, Iguodala could average as many as 90 points per game with 70 rebounds, 45 assists, 30 steals and 40 earth-shattering dunks if he played with any other team in the league. Other, more conservative estimates have him averaging only 70 points per game, but you get the picture.

It may be time to end the Iguodala experiment and allow his talent to flow freely with another NBA team, like the Timberwolves or maybe the Warriors. It is not too late for the Sixers to right the ship and become a respectable franchise and for Iguodala to smash record after record on the way to making some other team trillions upon trillions of dollars by employing the future greatest player in NBA history.

It has become painfully obvious that Iguodala will not work in Philadelphia, but the world deserves to see the forward’s true talent, and if that means having to trade him to another team that will automatically become the greatest team in NBA history for years to come, then so be it.

Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson has recently been called a ‘Diva’ for his behavior on and off the football field, but is this label entirely fair? What measuring stick should we use to determine if one person is more a ‘Diva’ than the next? More importantly, should the fact that we ain’t Jackson and therefore may hate the Pro Bowler factor into this equation?

Let’s quickly review the facts.

First, Jackson will earn $480,000 this season and while a true Diva would undoubtedly pout his Diva lips, stomp his Diva feet and refuse to cooperate until he earns more money, the fact of the matter is that most of us ain’t him and do not earn anywhere near $480,000 annually. If the majority of the populace earned $480,000, would we see him as a Diva, or simply as a gentleman trying his best to stack this paper?

Second, Jackson is one of the premier receivers in the premier football league on the globe. As a natural born U.S. citizen, is it not his right to use his Diva phone to demand to his Diva agent that he be paid as such? Or are we, as people that ain’t Jackson, hatin’ just a little too hard right now by asking that he just play out his rookie contract that he agreed to which is still higher than anything most of us will ever earn in our lifetimes?

In order to truly get to the bottom of this situation, we have to ask ourselves why we are not DeSean Jackson.

Is it because we were too busy hatin’ on him from an early age that we forgot to focus on our own success? Could it be that stuntin’ is a habit that the rest of us were not born with? Or is it simply because there can only be one DeSean Jackson?

Let us, for a moment, submit that Jackson is, in fact, a Diva. What do we have to lose should this be the clear case? Are Divas not some of the most entertaining people on this planet? If not for Divas, who would the children of irresponsible parents look up to?

It is also entirely possible that Jackson is a Diva, while at the same time, a recipient of hate because we ain’t him, as well. If this is the case, then how are we to judge the other party if we are both in the wrong. Is there a moral obligation to stop sweatin’ each other and do the right thing?

It appears that what started off as an innocent question is actually a much more complex philosophical one which we may never know the answer to. Whether or not DeSean Jackson is, in fact, a Diva or if he is simply the product of mass hateration will have to be left to the great minds of our time to decide.

But for now, let’s just win.

Ever since I came here, I’ve been dodging comparisons to this guy like I’m some kinda of “replacement Lee” and I don’t get it.

I hear what people are saying about how we were both traded from awful teams to the Phillies at the deadline and helped guide them to the playoffs by winning seven games in 12 starts while winning the fans over by doing quirky things.

I mean I get all that. But how does that make me Cliff Lee?

Would Lee have run through the stop sign at third last night to make sure we get that crucial insurance run?

OK, he probably would’ve. Bad question.

But what about the fact that my birthday is on August 29?

What? Really? Cliff Lee’s is on August 30? Sonofabitch…

Well, I led the National League in WHIP this year? Did Cliff Lee…

He led the American League in WHIP this year? Seriously, though? Come on!

OK, so I’m “kinda” like Cliff Lee. Big deal.

I’m confused.

I checked this morning and I have the ERA of a man that occasionally throws strikes and gets hitters out, but that’s impossible since I do neither of those things. No, really. It’s literally impossible.

Think about it: When is the last time I pitched without walking the bases loaded and/or giving up a two- or three-run home run to the worst hitter on the team? Never, right? I know! That’s why this is so bizarre.

It just makes no sense that after walking a pitcher, my ERA should be at least 15.00 or so. I mean, not only was he a pitcher, but it was his first time ever facing a major league pitcher in a game, and I walked him. And my ERA is still 4.38. How? I’m not even kidding. I want to know how that’s possible.

Am I the only person that thinks this is pretty crazy? Am I losing it? Am I the only one paying attention when I’m up on the mound walking and beaning guys?

Ever since I came back from my 50-game sabbatical last season, I’ve walked 36 guys in 41.1 innings and it says I have a 3.70 ERA over that span. I’m a walking, talking contradiction: A pitcher that can’t throw strikes, but has a better ERA than half the league.

Someone’s trying to get over on old J.C., that’s what this is. Ha, ha, very funny guys. Well, I’m not falling for it. I may not know what my ERA is, but I know it’s not 4.38.

Hello fans! It’s Greg Dobbs, your favorite pinch hitter and corner infielder, ready to fan the flames of the growing “Is Greg Dobbs a Hall of Famer?” debate.

Greg Dobbs knows you’re probably wondering ‘how is this even up for debate?’ and Greg Dobbs couldn’t agree with you more. But, believe it or not, there are people out there walking the streets that believe the Hall of Fame is no place for Greg Dobbs. It’s as if they’ve never seen Greg Dobbs play before.

While Greg Dobbs could easily talk all day about why the Hall of Fame needs Greg Dobbs, Greg Dobbs will let the numbers do the talking.

1. Greg Dobbs’ career .264 batting average is higher than Luis Aparicio, Gary Carter, Reggie Jackson, Harmon Killebrew, Rabbit Maranville, Bill Mazeroski, Ozzie Smith and this guy Joe Tinker, who are all in the Hall of Fame. If Greg Dobbs is a better hitter than Mr. October and the Wizard of Oz, then why doesn’t Greg Dobbs have a cool nickname? And more importantly, why isn’t Greg Dobbs in the Hall of Fame?

2. Phillies great Richie Ashburn hit 29 home runs in his Hall of Fame career. Do you know who else has hit 29 home runs in his career? That’s right. Greg Dobbs. Give Greg Dobbs a few more low pressure game situations and Greg Dobbs will pass Richie in no time.

3. Greg Dobbs finished the 2006 season with an amazing .370 batting average for the Seattle Mariners. Do you know how many Hall of Famers never hit .370 in a season? So-called ‘Hammerin’ Hank Aaron never hit .370 in a season. George Brett, arguably one of the greatest hitters of all time, only hit .370 or better once in his career. That’s right. The same number of times as Greg Dobbs.

The numbers don’t lie.

Greg Dobbs could provide several hundred more reasons why Greg Dobbs should be a surefire first-ballot Hall of Famer, but Greg Dobbs has to go work on his hitting. As much as the fans think Greg Dobbs’ talent comes naturally, it takes a lot of hard work and determination to do what Greg Dobbs does.

See you in Cooperstown!

Philly fan bashing has become a well-televised national pastime and we have both the idiot fans who keep dancing the jig and the equally idiotic members of the media who keep pushing the anti-Philly sentiment to thank for it.

I keep hearing that Philly fans embrace their awful reputation and wear it like a badge, but one thing I’ve noticed is that quite a few journalists and TV personalities embrace their anti-Philly slant and wear it loud and proud just like the fans they despise so much. As far as I know, Rick Reilly hasn’t projectile vomited on anyone, but his running schtick of ‘Philly fans suck’ has done just as much to feed the flame of objectionable behavior down on Broad Street as anyone that has ever booed an athlete (on either side) or run onto the field to get tasered.

Reilly and company are the instigators. The idiot journalists.

They’re a step above YouTube commenters that hide behind a computer screen trying to start a fight because that’s what sells. So, how is that any different than a fan that starts a fight in the upper deck because he’s had too much to drink?

I would call the Rick Reilly’s and the Colin Cowherd’s of the world ‘thugs’, but that would imply that they’re intimidating or garner respect on some level. They’re more like the idiot, attention-whore fans they continue to bring up at every opportunity. Calling out Philly fans is what they’re expected to do to stay relevant, so that’s what they do — the same way idiot Philly fans are expected to act like idiots, so that’s what they continue to do.

Journalists have been in the business of stirring the pot since we started paying for our news, so sensationalizing what goes on in South Philly isn’t really a surprise to me. The interesting part, to me, is that everyone just assumes that this whole situation is just because there’s something in the water supply in the Tri-State area that makes Philly fans more brash and out-of-control than the rest of us. While it’s entirely possible that we just have more nut-jobs than the rest of the country, I just think it’s more probable at this point that this whole situation was bred and continually fanned by irresponsible members of our trusted media and the fans of this area continue to respond in kind.

It’s the chicken and the egg.

You could say it has to start with the idiot fan in order for the idiot journalist to write about it, but there are idiot fans everywhere. With respect to this particular fire in Philly, I think it actually started with the idiot journalist. It’s like showing the guy running onto the field on national television: You’re just inviting the next knucklehead to do the same since you’ve made a production out of it.

Idiot members of the media are constantly throwing jabs out there about how awful Philly fans are compared to the rest of the country and I agree to some extent (our idiots are worse than other towns’ idiots), but I’m saying that the idiot journalist came first to pick this fight. Philly fans didn’t “throw snowballs at Santa.” Those fans were out of line in throwing snowballs, but they at least did so because the of a failed halftime show where the Eagles pulled a 20-year-old man from the stands to replace the “real Santa”, who was a no-show.

“He was the worst-looking Santa I’d ever seen,” said Jim Gallagher, PR director for the Eagles at the time. “Bad suit, scraggly beard. I’m not sure if he was drunk, but he appeared to be.”

From then on, it was reported as ‘fans threw snowballs at Santa’ and while I won’t go as far as to say that Howard Cosell is an idiot, I think it was irresponsible of him to show the make-shift Santa getting pelted with snowballs as the only highlight of the Eagles’ loss to the Vikings that day in 1968.

This discussion is old, and frankly I’d rather not have to bring this up again, but something has to be said of the role of the cowardly journalists that continue to bash this town’s fans, even in jest, which is just as irresponsible as the behavior as the fans they’re trying to demean and discourage. People are just waiting for the next Philly fan to run onto the field or projectile-vomit and these journalists are just waiting to cover it, make jokes about it and sensationalize it so they can sell their failing papers or fill air time on TV. Meanwhile, that only makes the idiots want to act out more. It’s what they do. They’re idiots. They take the bait the idiot journalists spit out and do more idiotic stuff. I happen to think the media shares some responsibility to stop baiting the hook. Of course, that’ll never happen, because there’s no money in that.

Raul Ibanez can’t hit, Kendrick can’t get anyone out, the Marlins just showed they can beat us, the Braves are right on our tails, Moyer’s old as hell, Jimmy Rollins is hurt, Lidge is stinking it up in the minors and won’t be able to close, Danys Baez and David Herndon can’t hold a lead, J.A. Happ and Joe Blanton are missing starts, Chase Utley stopped hitting homers, the Cardinals have Albert Pujols, Placido Polanco’s average is below .400, nobody’s stealing bases, fans are projectile vomiting on little girls, I still don’t trust Cole Hamels and I’m worried about what’s gonna happen with this team.

One of the first things the Phillies need to do is bench Raul and give Ben Francisco a chance out there. We should be able to trade Raul for some bullpen help, which is what we need anyway. I just don’t know why Charlie keeps putting him in the lineup when he stinks like this. I’m pretty sure Domonic Brown is ready by now. Why don’t we bring him up to take Raul’s place? What’s the hold up here?

The Marlins and Braves are seriously on our ass in the NL East and I think it’s gonna be a serious battle the whole year and there’s a chance we could miss the playoffs. The Marlins just beat us in two out of three games and even though the Braves are hitting .233 as a team right now, when they get going, they’re gonna be dangerous with the pitching staff they have. I just don’t feel right about our chances right now.

There are so many other things we need to fix before we can consider ourselves a real contender in the National League. I’m as optimistic as they come, but I’m freaking out right now. I know we’re only 12 games into the season, but if this isn’t time to hit the panic button, then when is?

What a complete waste of a year of my life. I told everyone the day that this douchebag Eddie Jordan got hired that this would be a complete disaster, but did anybody listen to me? Hell no.

I knew this guy was no good from the door. You can’t teach an old dog new tricks, and this guy’s best trick was turning good teams into garbage, just like he did with the Sixers.

My Sixers were on the verge of becoming a solid NBA team before this guy came to town and ruined everything that Ed Stefanski put together the past few years. There’s no way this team should lose 55 games with Andre Iguodala, Elton Brand and Thaddeus Young on our squad. No freakin’ way. The blame falls squarely on that nutcase Eddie Jordan. If we had anyone else coaching this team, we’d be in the playoffs right now, guaranteed.

I know Larry Brown said he didn’t want to leave the Bobcats, but how awesome would it be to have him back in Philly? I think Larry could guide the team to 50 wins, easy. As much as I want him back in town, I’ll take anybody other than that puss coach and his Princeton offense that we had to watch on the court this year. I kid you not: I could win more than 27 games if I was the coach. I have more basketball knowledge in my thumb than this guy had in his oversized head.

I’m glad he’s finally gone so the Sixers can finally get back to winning games. We have a solid team to build around and the draft is gonna be awesome this year since we finally have a good first-round pick, so I’m really looking forward to next year when we put it all together.

Let that doorknob hit you right in the ass on the way out, Eddie.
