joblessMajor League Baseball didn’t know what to expect with the midday and late-night start times for NLDS games between the Phillies and Rockies, so the league was overjoyed to hear that such a large contingent of jobless and insomniac Phillies fans had turned out to watch the past three games.

Approximately 17 fans across the Tri-state area have been able to watch each game live in its entirety, thrilling MLB’s Commissioner, Bud Selig.

“With the Yankees, Red Sox and LA teams in the playoffs, it’s been hard to get our reigning World Champs in a decent time slot,” said Selig on Monday. “But going up against Sunday Night Football and Jet Li’s The One, I’m more than pleased with the 15 or so people that stayed with us.”

Ryan Howard’s sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth and Brad Lidge’s save-ish-thing gave the Phils the 6-5 win and a 2-1 series lead. This information comes from a local jobless insomniac, Joe Costello, who was among the handful of people awake enough to record the game’s happenings.

“I definitely stayed up to watch the whole game, but…you know, what the hell else am I gonna do?” said Costello, who was one of the 17 fans that were also able to see the first two games without taking a three-hour lunch break or getting fired altogether. “It’s gonna suck when the Phils start playing at normal times. It was pretty nice having people envy me again.”

The Phillies will take on the Rockies tonight for Game 4 at a more-Godly hour of 6:00 pm ET.

poppins_jimmyThe Phillies will give away a free copy of the 10th Anniversary edition of Jimmy Poppins — starring the Phils’ own Jimmy Rollins — to the first 5,000 guests on June 12 against the Boston Red Sox.

The film, based on Rollins’ real life, follows the character Jimmy Poppins as he spends his childhood emulating legendary leadoff hitter Rickey Henderson. Poppins then works his way to the majors where he routinely pops balls up and never gets on base, falling unimaginably short of becoming the legendary leadoff hitter he once idolized.

“It’s one of those movies the whole family can enjoy,” said Rollins. “Unless your family really likes the Phillies, then it might get a little painful watching me pop up over and over and over and over and over and over . . . and over again . . .”

Hamels lists Mets as least threatening team, just below Puppy Bowlers

hamels_cole2Amid the recent comments made by Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran and Francisco Rodriguez about the completely one-sided Phillies/Mets rivalry, Cole Hamels was asked by a fan to rank the toughest teams in the league for the upcoming season.

“I think the Phillies are definitely at the top of the list right now,” Hamels answered. “The last team besides us to win a World Series was the 2007 Red Sox and that was like a thousand years ago.”

Hamels was then prodded by the fan to give his position for the Mets on his list.

“Until you mentioned them just now, I honestly forgot that they were actually still a major league team,” Hamels said. “With all of the choking they do, it’s really hard to put them on any list with respectable teams like the Phillies. But if I had to rank them, they would probably be somewhere between those Puppy Bowl puppies and the Pirates.”
