Daily News picks Flyers to beat themselves in 5 games

According to the Philadelphia Daily News, the Flyers will win one game of well-played hockey against the New Jersey Devils but will ultimately fall to themselves in five games.

“We’ve said it all year that the only team that can beat us is ourselves,” said Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger. “You’d figure that as many times as we’ve kicked our own asses that we’d learn to fight back. But, yeah. Not so much.”

The Flyers have battled injuries and inconsistency all year, leading to Sunday’s shootout win over the New York Rangers on the final day of the season. Though some members of the team are hopeful that things will change, others have taken a more realistic view of their playoff hopes.

“I can’t say exactly how we’re going to beat ourselves, but I’m pretty sure it will involve our goalie,” forward Scott Hartnell said on Monday. “And a lot of penalties. Yeah, tons of those.”

The Flyers will begin their playoff jog on Wednesday at the Prudential Center in Newark at 7:30 p.m. ET.

I don’t get it. Why would Hartnell paint such a bleak picture for his team on basically the eve of the most important game of the season. I’m posting from Vancouver in Canada and if a Canuck said that about his team here he would be reprimanded by his team mates, and probably publicly. I haven’t followed the Philadelphia hockey media this year, so what’s going on? Does this guy just think he is funny? Is he just playing with the media? Does he believe his team is really that sad? Are these athletes not coached on what to say to the public? If I was this guys team mate I would not want such a losing, pessimistic attitude in the dressing room. If someone would mail me back with some perspective on this I sure would appreciate it, cause to me me these comments are shocking. Hockey is a big deal here and these comments would definitely would not go unnoticed. Also, if you have any questions for me about hockey here in Vancouver that would be cool. I could be a source for you. What do you guys think about the Canucks? Also, if you have any other good local media sources for me regarding the Flyers I sure would appreciate it. Hope to hear from someone. Thanks and my name is Paul. Also, I can be twittered at Hurly1.

Hey Paul, I appreciate your enthusiasm for playoff hockey, but this is a satire site….meaning this stuff is completely made up. There’s a disclaimer at the bottom of every page and if you just take a look at any of the other articles on the site, you’d realize it as well.
